Iron
Iron is a common water contaminant. It is a metal that
can cause staining and water discoloration. Levels of iron above 0.3 ppm (mg/L)
can be very problematic. Excess iron can cause stains on the liner and/or interior
of your pool or spa. High levels of iron can also lead to rust on metal
fixtures and in plumbing. Also high levels have been known to develop a metal
taste in the water.
This problem can be substantially lessened or eliminated through the use of metal
chelators or sequestering agents that help to eliminate harmful levels of
metals. They work by combining with the iron in the water to form particles
that your filter system can remove.
